A Valentine’s Day Story Unlike Any Other

Grace to you and peace. Hope all is well with you and your family.

It was Valentine’s Day 2003, I was off from work and decided to get some beautiful red roses for my then-girlfriend (my future wife). So I purchased the roses, placed them into a lovely vase and wrote my marriage proposal on a thank you card, and placed it on top of the roses.

I then positioned the floral arrangement on the center table so that it would be the first thing she saw when she entered our apartment.

Later, I was taking a nap when she came in from work. When she opened the bedroom door, I expected tears, hugs and kisses, and an emphatic YES.

Instead, it was business as usual, hi honey I am home. I was distraught, flabbergasted, (insert your own adjective here) so I said, "Have you seen the flowers I bought for you?" She said yes, they are lovely and thank you.

So I asked, what happened to the thank you card, and she said I threw it in the garbage can. You did what, a million thoughts were going through my head, ranging from who is the lady to I am not so sure I want to marry her now.

However, the thank you card was one of those which folded in half, she did not open it, she just read the outside, took it off the roses, and threw it into the trash can.

So I said to her, go and find the card and read the inside, she did and then the tears, hugs, and kisses followed along with the emphatic YES. Hallelujah!!!

So why am I sharing this with you? In 2003 I was still in darkness outside the kingdom of light, did not know Christ as Lord as such did not know the true Agape love of God.

This month, especially in the next two weeks, we will hear a lot about love, but the true LOVE, the one that is found in John 3:16, is what fuels us as believers. It’s the very foundation on which we live our lives.

To that end, I have written a blog post that you can read on my blog by clicking here.
